AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM SPACE FOR COLORBLIND CHILDREN
Chromacity reimagines the streets and iconography of New York City into a playful, colorblind friendly after-school program space inspiring discovery and creativity.
For this group project, our class met with Italian artist Fabrizio Tiribilli as part of the Colorblind Creativity Project to research colorblindness accomodation in design. Located at 116 E 16th Street, the conceptual inspiration came from the streets of New York City, which are already primarily grey and brown even for those with full color vision. We wanted to adapt the typical street view to a fun, playful environment while considering colorblindness in all aspects including graphics, color palette, and materiality. The primary color palette utilizes blue and yellow as those are the colors least impacted by all types of colorblindness. The space incorporates iconic New York street visuals as custom designed, functional elements.
